Last Year at St.Luke Elementary School

Today is Monday June 8th 2015, and we now have 12 days left of school.
This blog post is required to talk about feelings of changing schools and friends. It's going to be very              hard making new friends and still keep the friends we already have.

I and many of my friends now are going to St.Pat's Intermediate Catholic School. We have to wear
uniforms. We even have a uniform for gym class. They are green, yellow, white and black. Uniforms
are to prevent any bullying in the school. I like uniforms but then it keeps people from showing who                they really are on the inside

To get to school I am either taking the OC Transpo bus or taking the school bus. My parents and I
still haven't decided, but I think I am most likely taking the school bus. The only problem with taking              school bus with the grades 8's would be them making fun of all the grade 7's.

There are 6 classes in a day. We only have 5 minutes to get back to our locker change books and                 get to the next class. If we have class in another building wish me luck!! I'm so worried about getting              lost cause damn that schools big. The most classes I'm worried about are Math and French. But I                can't wait to take part in the Drama and Music classes.

            Starting and Finishing time
So school starts at 8:00 and finishes at 2:10. That means that I have to get up at 5:00 which is way                to early for me because I get really cranky sometimes. I'm sure I will get used to it but still, that's                        just crazy talk.

I'm very excited to make new friends but at the same time I don't want to lose any of the friends I                 already have. Some of my friends from before that go there now, have made new friends and have                 lost the friends they have had in their lives for many years.

            Thanks for reading....

This Past Month

This past month we have been learning about EQAO questions to help us when we have to write the test. Some of the questions we have had are:

  1. If a moth flaps its wings 80 times in 1 minute, how many hours will it take the moth to flap its wings 1,000,000?

2. If it is midnight in California, and nine o'clock am in New York. You want to travel from California to New York and it takes 6 hours to get to New York. If it is 12 in the afternoon in California what time will it be in New York when you arrive?

These are all the questions we have done for EQAO but we are still working on more.

We have also been very busy for Valentine's day. The grade 6 class (my class) had to come up with an idea for Valentine's day. Our idea was to sell candy grams. First we needed to design the candy gram posters to let people know that something was happening the week of Valentine's day. Once they were up, we had to design the candy gram cards. After we designed those we had to buy bags and envolopes. Every second block we went to every class to collect the candy grams. The boys cut out new candy grams that weren't filled out. While the girls sorted them by class and counted the money.

We also have been learning about Area and Perimeter. Perimeter is the distance around the shape and area is the distance on the inside of the shape.

In English class once every week we have to give yourself your own homework. We are aloud to do anything we wanted. Learn a new language, book report, read for 30 minutes, it didn't matter. So I decided to learn Spanish. I got this app called Duo Lingo and its not just for Spanish, you can learn any language you want.

My friend Elizabeth is trying to teach me how to draw, and it's not going so well. It's not that I can't draw, I can but I want to be as good as her!! She can draw anything and it looks good.

In French, we have been doing Science experiments and we had to present them to the class. But they weren't just any science experiments it had to be an experiment on air. My experiment was to stack cups and then cut a hole in the extra cup, blow out of the cup and see how many cups you can knock over.

And I know that what I'm going to say has nothing to do with school, but this Saturday coming up, I have a Dance Showcase and I am so excited!!:) One of my friends, Marcus is coming to watch because he likes dance too. But to be good and have a great time, we need to work hard in the studio, and have loads of fun when we go on stage.

Thanks for reading:)

This past month we have been learning about angles. The 3 angles we have been learning about are right angle, acute angle and obtuse angle. A right angle is 90 degress, an obtuse angle is 90-180 degress and an acute angle is 90 degress and lower.  There are different kinds of angles that we are getting to know. I will post more about angles when I know more.

Giving Stockings To The Homeless

On Monday, The grade 6 class went downtown to give stockings to the homeless. We bought warm, fuzzy socks and put one sock inside the other sock. Then we filled the sock with travel size toothpaste, shampoo, mouthwash and even bars of soap. We gave one to every homeless person we saw. Every time a grade 6 student gave a stocking to a homeless person, they cried. Everyone was guessing that they cried because no one ever gave them anything for Christmas or that they didn't have enough money to buy something or someone else to make them feel happy. It was really sad to see people that didn't have a leg or people that didn't have warm clothes. We even saw homeless people looking through garbage bins to find beer bottles or wine bottles to bring into a beer store to get money for it. The things we saw, we can't unsee  but we should feel good about ourself knowing that we made a homeless person feel good.

All About Me!!

Hi, my name is Kaley and I am in grade 6. I have a little sister, mom, dad, baby cousin, grandparents and an aunt and uncle who love me very much. My favourite color is baby blue. I like eating cucumber, cupcakes, tomato, carrots, strawberries and blackberries. I am a competitive dancer at Kali Andrews Dance Co. I like to do Acro, HipHop, Jazz, Contemporary and Ballet. I get to go to many different places and meet a lot of different people. I have met Shawn Desman and Kate from The Next Step. This year I have 3 away competitions. Niagra Falls, Cornwall and Brocville. Last year I wasn't dancing for almost 3 months because I had a hip injury and I have just renjured the same hip. I am not aloud to dance for at least 2 weeks. The great thing is that I have meet so many people that I didn't really like when I first met them but now we are best friends. The friends I have made over the past 4 years are friends worth keeping. When someone has an injury everybody understands each other because we have all been there a couple times. My best friend at my studio is Vicky. Vicky understands everything about me. When I need a friend she is always there for me. Basicly, everyone gets along and that's what you need is for everyone to have trust in each other. And when I get mad at someone or because of what happened I tell myself there is no I in TEAM!!!

Thanks for reading:)
P.S. I will be writing more about me and about my learning so please check my blog everyday and I will try and post when I have time:)
